Capecitabine-capegard
"Capecitabine" is the drug / molecule content in “Capegard”. It interferes with the growth of cancer cells and slows their spread in the body. It belongs to a class of anti-metabolites. Capecitabine is a prodrug which is enzymatically converted to the drug 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) in your body, letting more of the active drug get to the tumor.
Indication
Capegard is indicated as first – line treatment of patients with Metastatic Colorectal Carcinoma when treatment with fluoropyrimidine therapy alone is preferred. Capegard in combination with docetaxel is indicated for the treatment of patients with Metastatic Breast Cancer after failure of prior anthracycline – containing chemotherapy.

Precaution
- Capegard are prescription drug and should be used under proper medical guidance and advice.
- Enzyme dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase (DPD) deficiency is an inborn genetic abnormality; it can cause extreme side effects if 5-FU or capecitabine is used.
- Contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation.
